Everything you need to know about Grenoble airport transfers
Grenoble-Isère airport is the dedicated gateway to the southern French Alps, serving a cluster of world-class ski resorts that are distinct from the better-known Tarentaise destinations accessible from Geneva, Lyon and Chambéry. While those airports funnel traffic to the Three Valleys, Paradiski and the Mont-Blanc area, Grenoble provides the shortest route to the Oisans massif and the resorts of the southern Alpine chain. The airport operates seasonally, with direct charter flights arriving primarily from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe during the winter ski season (December through April). Like Chambéry, Grenoble-Isère is a compact, efficient airport where processing times are fast — most passengers are through baggage claim within twenty minutes of landing. Alpe d'Huez is the flagship destination from Grenoble airport. The resort, famous for its south-facing slopes that guarantee sunshine, and for its legendary status in the Tour de France, is reached in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from the airport. The route follows the A480 autoroute south from Grenoble, then the N85 and D1091 through the Romanche valley to Bourg d'Oisans, where the famous 21 hairpin bends begin their climb to the resort at 1,860 metres. Les Deux Alpes lies just 15 minutes further than Alpe d'Huez, in the next valley. The resort — known for its glacier skiing that extends the season into summer — is reached via the same Romanche valley route, branching off at Bourg d'Oisans towards the Vénéon valley. Total journey time from Grenoble airport is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Serre Chevalier, in the Briançonnais, requires a longer drive but offers a distinct Alpine experience. The route from Grenoble follows the N85 (the Route Napoléon) over the Col du Lautaret at 2,058 metres, then descends into the Guisane valley. Journey time is approximately 2 hours in good conditions, though the Col du Lautaret can be affected by winter weather. When the pass is open, the drive is one of the most spectacular in the French Alps. Villard-de-Lans and Corrençon-en-Vercors, on the Vercors plateau, are the closest ski destinations to Grenoble — just 45 minutes from the airport. These resorts offer a quieter, family-oriented alternative to the high-altitude Oisans resorts. The winter transfer experience from Grenoble demands specific expertise. The roads to Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes include steep mountain sections with significant altitude gain — Bourg d'Oisans sits at 720 metres, Alpe d'Huez at 1,860 metres, a climb of over 1,100 metres in 13 kilometres. Winter tyres and snow chains are essential equipment, not optional extras. Our chauffeurs drive these roads regularly throughout the season and know the conditions at each altitude level. Saturday changeover days follow the same pattern as other Alpine airports: morning arrivals between 10:00 and 14:00, with the return wave departing from resorts between 08:00 and 12:00. The Romanche valley road between Grenoble and Bourg d'Oisans can experience congestion during these peak periods, and advance booking ensures your vehicle is positioned and ready. Crew Transport & Security operates dedicated transfers from Grenoble-Isère airport to all southern Alpine resorts throughout the winter season. Our fleet includes the V-Class for families with full ski equipment, the E-Class for efficient duo transfers, and the S-Class for prestige arrivals. All vehicles are winter-equipped. The service runs 24/7 during the operating season.
